Traveling for me has always been fun. Even if it is just within Cebu City or going to a decent beach or a yummy cafe just to relax. I enjoy trying out and experience something new and out of my routine.
Last July, I received an invitation to give a Social Media Marketing talk from the Truly Rich Club in Cagayan de Oro for August 20. It has been a while since I went to Cagayan and I was a bit excited. I was thinking of the food that I would eat and the pasalubong to buy for my family and partners at InHim Group of Companies. I was excited to see the changes and progress in Cagayan since my last visit and if there are cool new things that I can do there.
On an important note, it is a good opportunity for me to share my expertise in social media marketing, as well as online marketing to those who want to grow their personal career or business. Also, this is an opportunity to network with like-minded entrepreneurs that can help me and our businesses at InHim grow. And the best part of it is, I get paid to talk, which I really enjoyed doing.
So on the evening of August 19, I hopped on the last flight bound for Cagayan and in less than an hour, I safely arrived there. Upon arrival, I was shocked at how big their new airport is and how nice their cabs already looked. It has definitely been a while and the changes seemed to excite me even more.
When I arrived at the hotel, I settled in immediately and called my beautiful wife, and afterwards went out to eat dinner. Of course, my dinner is never complete without desserts. As I finished, I went for a short walk and went to an ATM, to get some cash. Then walked further but felt a tummy ache, so I went back to the hotel.
As I got back to the hotel, I re-calibrated my talk and practiced giving my talk to my audience in the mirror. Of course, I called back my wife through Facebook Video. Enjoyed talking to her and listening to the laughter of my kids, and my youngest son’s teasing (he is sooooo like me). As an hour or more of talking passed by, I felt sleepy and couldn’t talk anymore. I dozed off and when I woke up, I thought it was already morning but as I checked my watch, it was actually still 11:00 PM. Then at 1:30 AM I woke up again, so I forced myself to go back to sleep. Woke up again at almost 3AM and again slept. Woke up again. Slept again. Woke up again.
Finally, it was 7AM plus. I realized that after having 3 kids and sleeping with them in one bed, I am no longer the same guy who loves to travel or enjoys going to adventure to discover and check new things…. More than anything else, I’m now a Daddy. I just love my kids so much that being “far” from them is giving me a hard time to sleep. And to think sleeping is one of my 3rd favorite thing to do (number one is winning, 2nd is eating).
After 35 years of my life, I have become something that I never really focused on becoming. Yes, I always dreamed and planned on becoming a successful entrepreneur, an author, a powerful speaker, a wealthy person. But never in my early years have I dreamed of becoming an obsessed-loving-Daddy. Yes, I am far from being a perfect one. But I love with my best.
To all Daddy’s out there. It is a great gift. Cherish it. Smell it. Endure it. Feel it. Enjoy it. And especially, embrace it. It is one of the greatest gifts in life.
